Task Rules
Version 1.0 · Effective 17 September 2026
The one thing to understand
When you post a task or accept one, you are making an arrangement with another person. The Strong Suit is not part of that arrangement.
We give you the place to find each other, a private space to work, and a record of what was approved. Everything else — what gets built, what it costs, when it is paid, who owns the result, what happens if someone disappears — is between the two of you.
1. What we do
Let members post tasks and apply. Give the two people a private workspace for the brief, submissions and messages. Let the poster request changes or approve. Turn approved work into task-verified proof and award XP under published rules. Give you a way to report problems.
2. What we do not do
We are not an employer, staffing agency, recruiter, contractor, escrow agent, payment processor, collections agency or insurer. We are not a party to your agreement.
We do not: process, hold, transfer or guarantee any payment; guarantee you will be paid, paid on time, or paid what was described; check anyone's identity, qualifications, experience, insurance or right to work; run background checks; supervise, direct or schedule anyone's work; set anyone's rates or working conditions; guarantee work gets delivered, delivered on time, or is any good; guarantee a poster reviews or approves fairly; decide who owns the work; mediate or resolve disputes between you; or recover money for you.
3. Payment happens off the platform. All of it.
The Strong Suit does not process payments. No wallet, no escrow, no invoicing, no payouts.
- A reward on a task is a description written by the poster of what they say they will give. It is not a promise from us and we do not verify it.
- If money changes hands, it is directly between you and the other person, by whatever method you agree, entirely at your own risk.
- We do not know what was actually paid. We do not track it or confirm it.
- If you are not paid, we cannot get it back for you. We are not a collections agency and have no leverage over the other person. Your remedy is against them.
- There are no refunds from us, because you never pay us anything. Money between members is between members.
Protect yourself: agree everything in writing in the task workspace before starting — scope, price, schedule, revisions, who owns the result. For bigger work, ask for a deposit or split it into stages. Work with people who have real task-verified proof. Keep your own records.
4. Unpaid and exchange work
Some tasks offer portfolio credit instead of money. Suit Swaps trade skills.
- You choose whether to take unpaid or exchange work. Nobody has to.
- Posters must say clearly and honestly when a task is unpaid.
- Barter is not tax-free. If you receive goods or services instead of money, Canadian tax authorities generally treat the value of what you got as income, and sales tax may apply. Get your own advice.
- Do not disguise paid work as an unpaid opportunity, and do not use unpaid tasks to extract substantial work for nothing.
5. You are responsible for your own legal position
You, not us, are responsible for: your taxes on anything you receive; employment and contractor law if you engage someone; any licensing your work requires; your right to work where you are; insurance, which we do not provide; and confidentiality.
On that last one: marking a task confidential controls who can see the brief on this platform. It is not a legal agreement between you and it does not stop someone sharing what they saw. If you need an NDA, put one in place yourselves.
6. Who owns the work
The Strong Suit takes no ownership of work produced through a task or swap.
Ownership is between the two of you, and you should agree it in writing before work starts. Put it in the brief.
If you say nothing, ownership is decided by the law that applies to you — which may not be what either of you expected. Under Canadian copyright law the creator generally owns their work unless there is an agreement otherwise. Paying for work does not automatically transfer copyright.
You both separately give The Strong Suit the limited permission in section 7 of the Terms so the resulting proof can be displayed.
7. If you post a task
You must: describe the work accurately including deliverables, deadline and reward; genuinely intend to have it done and to pay if you said you would; respond to applicants in reasonable time; review submitted work in reasonable time and either request changes within the stated limit, or approve.
You must not: post illegal, unsafe or harmful work; post academic work meant to be submitted as someone else's; ask for anything deceptive; ask for credentials, ID or financial information; discriminate on a protected ground; use applications to collect free work; post a task you do not intend to pay for or approve; or repost to stay at the top.
Approving work is meaningful. It creates permanent task-verified proof and XP for the other person. Approve because the work met the brief — not as a favour, and not in exchange for anything.
8. If you apply to a task
You must: apply only where you can genuinely do the work; describe your experience honestly; say clearly if your situation changes; deliver what you agreed, or say clearly that you cannot.
You must not: apply in bulk without reading; submit someone else's work; submit work containing material you do not have rights to; or accept work you do not intend to do.
Applying does not guarantee acceptance. Posters choose.
9. Level requirements
Posters can set a minimum or maximum level. This exists so members just starting out have tasks they can actually compete for before more experienced members apply. It is a filter the poster chose — not a judgment by us about anyone's ability.
10. Suit Swaps
Two members trading work — each delivers, each approves the other. Everything here applies to both sides, and each approved side becomes task-verified proof.
Swaps carry the same risk as any task: the other person might not deliver. We do not guarantee either side and cannot make anyone finish.
11. When it goes wrong
Talk to each other first, in the task workspace. Most problems are misunderstandings about scope.
If you cannot resolve it, either of you can cancel where the Terms allow. A cancelled task creates no proof and no XP.
We are not your dispute resolution service. We will not decide who was right, force an approval, reverse one because someone regrets it, or make anyone pay.
What we will do: act where our Community Rules were broken — a fraudulent task, harassment, stolen work, or a sham task to manufacture reputation. Report it.
Your legal remedies are against the other person, through the courts where you are, including small claims court.
12. Staying safe
- Be careful with personal information. You do not need to give your home address, ID or financial details to do a task.
- Be suspicious of: anyone who wants to move off-platform immediately; overpayment or refund-the-difference schemes; requests for your banking logins; anything too urgent to think about; an offer that makes no sense.
- Never send money to get work. No legitimate poster asks a contributor to pay.
- If you meet in person, that is entirely between you. We do not check anyone's identity or background. Meet publicly, tell someone where you are going.
- Report anything that feels wrong.
13. No promise of work or earnings
We make no promise that you will find work, be accepted, be paid, or earn any amount through The Strong Suit. Any figures shown anywhere on the site are what a member wrote in their own task posting. They are not a representation by us about what you can expect to earn.
